The Way It Was
THE WAY IT WAS
Welcome to The Way It Was. Here I will be sharing songs, flyers, etc. from ye olde days of tape trading. Sometimes it'll be an mp3 mix that I throw together, other times entire demo/album. I'm doing this to share a bit of my past with the rest of you, and it's FREE. I'm not making a dime off of this. Most of the tracks you will hear are rare or hard to find.
If any bands that appear on this site don't want your music featured, let me know and I'll take it down immediately.
I originally planned to leave each volume up for a month, but I will now keep all of this up as space permits. When I need to clear them out to make room for new material, I'll let you all know.
SUBMISSIONS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME! (drop me a line at bobby at paranoizenola dot com)

Here are a few demos of some of the more obscure New Orleans area bands.
Spoiled Brats-Think For Yourself demo (1986)
Spoiled Brats were from the Northshore. I'd never heard of this band aside from Mike Bevis mentioning them to me now and then, but came across contact info for one of their guitarists online and he sent me mp3's of their 2nd demo. It definitely stood up to the hype. This is some damn fine New Orleans (well, close enough to New Orleans) hardcore!
The lineup on this recording was:
Glen - vocals
Art - guitar
Mike - guitar
Steve - bass
John - drums
Musical
Victim Of Society
Together Forever
Skatin' Not Satan
Jock Party
Not Like You
Trashed Again
Running Free
Let's Beat Up Our Friends
The Fun Song
Brain Dead-unreleased demo (1988)
I got a copy of this demo from my friend Nathan Besse, who went to school with one of the guitarists. I didn't really like this band back then, and I totally forgot that I had dubbed it on the b-side of the tape that had Exhorder "Get Rude" demo on it until I checked it recently. Now that I listen to it, they weren't totally horrible.
Brain Dead only played a handful of shows, one of which I remember being Shell Shock's first or second with Kirk Windstein in the band at Storyville Jazz Hall, and another being with Catch 22 at Teaser's Teen Club in Metairie.
I don't know who was in this band, but do remember seeing one of the guitarists in Mounting Tension, and the bass player went on to play for Cap'n Meathead.

Lymph Vessel-'96 demo
Lymph Vessel were the heaviest band to ever come out of the Westbank.
A little back story here... Between '92 and '96 I missed out on a lot of what was going on in the NOLA scene between moving around a bit, and being married to someone who wasn't supportive of any of my hobbies or interests. I left the wife, moved to the city did some couch surfing and soul searching and found out that some friends of mine from high school (Chris and Buddy) who were in a band called Presto (here is a song of theirs called "Wrong Rights" it's all I have.. don't ask for more...)had a new band that was creating quite a buzz around the scene at the time.
The lineup on this demo is:
Buddy Sadenga-vocals
Chris Hebert-guitar
Aaron Terrebonne-guitar
Dave Raines-bass
Johnny Ledet-drums
and this is what they sounded like....

R.I.P. Lawrence Nodier
Lawrence Nodier passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, March 29th, 2008.
Lawrence has done his time as vocalist for Suicidal Overdose, Destitute Savior, No Destination, Daddy Y-Belt, the Bump Daddyz, and Truck.
Here is what I have in my collection of his contributions to the New Orleans underground music scene.
Suicidal Overdose-We Don't Care What You Think demo (1988)
Suicidal Overdose were a short-lived speedcore band. This is their one and only demo.
Suicidal Overdose was:
Lawrence Nodier-vocals
John Farrell-guitar
Jeff Weibelt-bass
Chris Vamvoras-drums

The Sadist
No Way Out
Kill The Preps
Nuclear Destruction
Kids
High School
Suicidal Overdose
DESTITUTE SAVIOR-'89 demo
Yes this has been posted already, but I'm going to bring this demo to the forefront again in tribute.
This is the '89 lineup: Lawrence Nodier-vocals, Mark Dubuisson-guitar, Cliff-guitar, Eddie Joubert-drums, Andy-bass. With a proper recording, this demo would have levelled cities!
They were resurrected in the 90's with a different line-up and recorded the Exhumed demo in 1993, but this is my favorite era of this band.
I'll shut up now.
Destitute Savior

Simply Insane
The Last War
Execution
No Destination-Telecaneph demo (1990)
No Destination formed from the remains of Destitute Savior (Lawrence-vocals and Cliff-guitar) and Elimination (Jeff Weibelt-bass and Bryan Hebert-drums). After Cliff left, Scott Guion, then of Cap'n Meathead joined and they recorded this demo. When Lawrence first told me about this band he described them as "a cross between Black Sabbath and Red Hot Chili Peppers", which was pretty accurate in the beginning, but Scott's style cleaned up their sound a bit.
